Planning for Our Energy Future
As our economy struggles and energy costs rise, we have the opportunity to fundamentally change how we use energy in Chittenden County. From the way we develop our land and move around our community, to the buildings we build, heat and power, we make choices that change the face of our community.
These choices must reduce our use of fossil fuels, minimize our carbon footprint, create jobs and improve public health. They include energy efficient purchasing and construction, use of renewable energy, a variety of transportation options, and smart growth development.
How will we make the changes necessary to ensure we thrive as indivuals and as a community? We must make policy changes at the federal, state and local level to encourage energy efficiency and use of renewable energy. But we as individuals, businessess and organizations can also lead with our actions.
Through our Changing Face of Chittenden County project, the Champlain Initiative and our partners offer:
- Stories showing how people are embracing our energy opportunities;
- Indicators and data to paint a picture of our status and progress;
- What You Can Do
- Tools and Resources
